Equipment for On-Site Work
Complete systems are also often built into cases or flightcases to perform certain tasks on-site. Think of handy flightcases, smaller than a travel case, fully equipped as a mobile check-in counter for airlines. Or an IP67 waterproof plastic case with a retractable handle and wheels, designed as a mobile identification kit, including a laptop, fingerprint scanner, and iris scanner. But even simpler systems are increasingly integrated into a case or flightcase to perform and register measurements in the field. For example, systems where a mini-PC or laptop, along with various specific peripherals, are connected, powered, and fully functional, built into a compact custom case for service technicians. In this case, a professional, durable, and solid build is essential for the users’ productivity and the optimal protection of your equipment.
Solutions in Detail
Gefken is a specialist and full partner in system integration in cases and thinks along with you in all cases. From concept to production. From the type of case to the method of integration. What do we focus on? Some key topics are cable management, heat development, ease of use, and the degree of integration.
In cable management, we focus on:
- How do cables run to and from peripherals or power supplies?
- Are the standard cables provided the correct length?
- How are the cables organized inside the case?
- How should power supplies be connected to the potential central power supply inside the case or flightcase?
Since some equipment generates heat during use, we also look at heat development. For instance, if power supplies are concealed and covered, excessive heat may build up in a compartment, potentially causing systems to malfunction or temporarily shut down. Passive cooling in the form of cooling slots can help, but sometimes active cooling with one or more fans inside the case or flightcase is necessary. We take care of that as well.
Whether the system in the cases or flightcases is for presentation purposes or for on-site work, user convenience is paramount. Together with you, we consider the best layout, the work process, and whether the case should also be stand-alone, meaning it can be used without an external power supply but with an integrated battery.
Often, the decision arises whether systems need to be fully integrated so users can’t swap cables, or if users need to easily access pre-connected cables. At this stage, we also decide on the materials used for the interior. A precision foam interior, an aluminum mounting panel where equipment is mounted, a vacuum-formed strong plastic interior, or perhaps a combination of several materials and techniques.
Custom-Made Through and Through
The case or flightcase is then designed by one of our product engineers. Completely custom-made, if desired in your corporate style, and of course according to the specifications that match the type of use.
As a manufacturer of the cases or flightcases, our role in system integration, or ‘mobility solutions’ as we also call it, has grown significantly over the years. In this, the choice of you as the customer is, of course, leading, but once we have analyzed the best layout, there are roughly three options:
- Preparation for Integration: We ensure that the cases or flightcases are fully customized, including the interior. Cable passes and mounting options are prepared by us, so you can integrate the system yourself. Connectors may be provided, and cutouts for easy installation are already made by us.
- Semi-Full Integration: In this case, we not only prepare for integration but also ensure that necessary electronics that are not part of your system are connected. In simple terms, we ensure there are sufficient power outlets and other desired connectors available and connected. For example, by integrating a power strip in the case or flightcase and connecting it to a central power supply outside. The system integration is simpler, and the customer doesn’t have to install electronics outside their scope.
- Full Integration: In this most comprehensive form, we take care of all installation work for you. To manage this well, we would appreciate receiving an installation plan of your system to integrate so that we can install and test everything properly. The various components are supplied by you, and we deliver the cases or flightcases fully ready for use, so you can start using them immediately.
Whatever system you wish to integrate to present to your customers or to work with on-site, with our knowledge and production capabilities, we always have a solution in-house.
